Independence Day is commonly associated with parades, fireworks, political speeches, ceremonies, barbecues, concerts, and of course, baseball games. And when it comes to post season College Football Bowl games, The Independence Bowl is always associated with this occasion.
The College Bowl game is a much awaited post-season NCAA football bowl game that is played annually at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. It got its name because the Independence bowl Game was inaugurated in the United States bicentennial year, 1976 (1776-1976).
This year is the 34th Independence Bowl Game . The competition became one of the earliest college bowl games to use a title sponsor. This season’s the game is being called AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl.
AdvoCare is the fifth Sponsor of Independence Bowl Game. Among its predecessors are:
• Poulan (a division of AB Electrolux Home Products, now Husqvarna AB) sponsored the game until 1996.
• Newell Rubbermaid’s Sanford brand of writing products took over sponsorship from 1998 until 2000.
• MainStay Investments sponsored from 2001 to 2003.
• PetroSun Inc., a diversified energy company that provides services and products to suppliers of oil and gas was to have run through 2008 with an option for 2009; however the deal was discontinued prior to the 2008 game.
In January 2005, in what was widely recognized as a publicity stunt, the Deja Vu chain of “gentlemen’s clubs” offered to become the title sponsor. The offer was rejected.
With only few months away, the Bowl directors are busy preparing for the game which is the most awaited post game in the US today.
In accordance with Independence Day celebration, the NCAA athletes are giving their salute to the true spirit of sportsmanship and dedication for the upcoming bowl game.
